I'm a mixed media artist & painter. I'm also a counsellor and use creativity to inform the process when directed by the client. In my own work, I am influenced and respond to, the interplay of my immediate surroundings, and internal reality and processes. attempting to capture feelings of the moment: such as joy, grief and playfulness together with inspirations. That might be through nature, pattern, my love of India. Musical beats. A conversation.
Many layers of paint are applied, many stories unfold and possibilities emerge organically. The work comes together through choices that are both deliberate using the thinking process a little but also intuitive and unplanned for. Often, I have no idea what the end product might look like; this is part of the excitement and intrigue for me, exploring the natural unfolding in art and within nature or life cycles, whilst observing the changes and transitory states.
I'm deeply interested in the workings of the mind and the souls work of bridging the gap between spirit and matter; masculine and feminine. Attempting, in my life and work to hold or balance the polarities that are human givens.
My journey through artistic expression and in life has very much been a commitment to come to deeply know, express and trust the self through pointing to what is essential nature, or absolutely true. Then, to bring that into an embodied way of being. The process is a continual inquiry or exploration, involving deep listening and engagement with the substrate or other.
Advaita. Carl Rogers and Jung inspire my process as does the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, the master of `Kundalini Yoga'. Integrating, and bringing all that continues to deeply influence me including what is alive in me. Extending myself to my painting process in an energetic way that's cohesive as well as evolving through continued study.
I didn't begin more formal art studies late into my 30's, only as far as a visual arts diploma before life took another direction relocating. A different study of yoga and therapeutic modalities within a counselling profession took precedence. I live with my beautiful boy- dog. Jake. In the countryside of Gloucestershire. United Kingdom
